The Fully Funded Scholarship Application Phase of the Korean Government’s Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Program is now open.. In 2022, the Korean government’s Global Korea Scholarship program aims to invite international students who want to do a graduate degree or research in Korea.

The Global Korea Scholarship is fully funded and aims to provide international students with opportunities to undertake advanced study in postgraduate programs at institutions of higher learning in the Republic of Korea, with the aim of promoting international exchanges in education and mutual friendship between countries.

Korean Government “Global Korea Scholarship” Program Information

  • The Korean government’s Global Korea Scholarship program aims to invite international students who wish to pursue a graduate degree or research in Korea.
  • Scholars are required to take Korean training courses for 1 year at a language institution located on the campus of national universities. (Those who achieved a Korean language fluency score greater than TOPIK level 5 are exempt from this requirement.)

 

Eligibility Criteria for the Korean Government’s “Global Korea Scholarship” Program

To qualify for the Korean government’s Global Korea Scholarship program, you are expected to meet the following conditions:

  • Both the applicant and their parents must be citizens of their home country.
  • Applicants must not have Korean citizenship.
  • Applicants must have adequate health, both mentally and physically, so that they can stay in a foreign country for a long time.
  • Must be under 25 years of age. (University student)
  • Must be under 40 years of age. (Graduate)
  • Have completed or be scheduled to complete formal education of all elementary and high school courses by the arrival date. (University student)
  • Have a grade point average (G.P.A.) above 80% in the last educational institution attended.
  • Possess a bachelor’s or master’s degree by the date of arrival. (Graduate)
  • Applicants who previously obtained any degree program, master’s program or doctoral program in Korea are not eligible to apply for this program.

Scholarship benefits

Successful applicants to the Korean government’s Global Korea Scholarship program will receive the following benefits:
  • Tuition fees – Actual cost (NB: no more than KRW 5 million per semester)
  • Life Allowance – 900,000 KRW ~ 1,000,000 KRW
  • Airfare – Actual cost
  • Medical Insurance – KRW 20,000 (per month)
  • Resettlement allowance – KRW 200,000
  • Research Support – Between 210,000 to 240,000 KRW (per semester)
  • Printing (Dissertation) Costs – Between 500,000 to 800,000 KRW
  • Completion allowance – KRW 100,000 (one time)
  • Outstanding Korean Language Proficiency Award – KRW 100,000
  • Language courses – KRW 800,000 per quarter

 

Application Procedures for “Global Korea Scholarship” Program

How to apply for Scholarship:

  • NIIED invites the Korean Embassy in the invited country or a national university to recommend qualified candidates.
  • Applicants must submit all documents related to the scholarship application to the Korean Embassy in their country of residence or to the domestic university in question.
  • The Korean Embassy or the national university sends qualified candidates to the NIIED with the necessary documents.
  • The NIIED evaluates potential applicants and notifies the Korean Embassy of selected Global Korea Scholarship final recipients.
